Premier Division Northern Counties East League

Nuneaton Borough 1 Hyde United 0

It is very rare that a club moves to a new ground which is in worse condition than the original .Nuneaton have however bucked the trend ,buying the town’s Rugby Union ground and taking it over ,putting up a temporary stand and using the old stands elsewhere. As they haven’t the style of the Manor Ground it’s a big disappointment. The use of the pitch for two sports has cut is up although the objections from the visitors are truly ridiculous. In the game itself the first half is dominated by the visitors although they are unable to score. Their winger Nicky Clee runs rings round the home defence but is unable to hit the net mainly thanks to home keeper Darren Acton and his defenders .After the break the game turns around with more pressure from the home side who manage to score the winner from a bit of a scramble and have a second disallowed for offside. Hyde offer little and the game peters out with a chance to walk once again over the scrapheap that they call a car park.

Romulus 3 Leighton Town 2

Presumably the team who call themselves Romulus should be known as the Romulans. Sadly not, they are the Roms  and, even worse, they  are homeless. They play at Sutton Coldfield Town ,incidentally in the same league, and are just a few places below their hosts. This is not the easiest ground to find but we get there in plenty of time when our 1st problem happens. The steps up into the, only, seating are totally impossible for someone with one leg being too steep. The only idea seems to be to sit in the car when the club come up with the idea of letting me take a chair to sit on in the stand. This solves the problem and now to watch the match It is dominated by a Mr Horton, the referee, who sends off four players, two from each side and books many more in a game of a little bit of hand bags but nothing else. The home side score early on but the visitors equalise through a twice taken penalty. The visitors then take the lead but after all the shenanigans the Romulans revive themselves and firstly equalised and then score a last minute winner. Soon it’s all over and the home team are victorious but the main talking point must be the performance of Mr Horton
